Bordered by fast-flowing streams, lakes, miles-long beaches and mountains as well as forests, New Zealand is a heaven for travelers searching the tranquility and serenity from the wide-ranging chaos of day to day life.
New Zealand has a complete network of both domestic and international airports. However, regardless of your ultimate destination in this country, Auckland is still by far your main entry point. Auckland, the biggest and most populated metropolitan area in New Zealand’s North Island, houses the country’s busiest and leading international air transportation hub- Auckland International Airport (airport code: AKL). Auckland Airport is located approximately 21 kilometers south of the city center. Over 70 percent of tourists in New Zealand arrive in this airport and over 12 million travelers use this airport every year. The airport has a single terminal structure for international flights and another one intended for domestic flights. A complimentary shuttle service runs between the domestic and international terminals from 6 in the morning down to 10:30 in the evening daily. There is also a walkway that connects the international terminal to the domestic terminal. It takes about 10 minutes of walk to get to either terminal.
You can fly between all cities and major towns of New Zealand with the use of the domestic air carriers serving Auckland International Airport. Qantas and Air New Zealand are used to be the major air carriers, but Qantas had stopped providing domestic services last June 2009. Jetstar, Qantas’ subsidiary airline takes its place. Both services of Jetstar and Air New Zealand are harmonized by regional airlines, scenic flight operators and charter companies.
Other air carriers serving Auckland International Airport both domestic and international are Cathay Pacific, Air Pacific, Emirates, Thai Airways International, Korean Air and a lot more.
